Rated 5 out of 5 by I can brew coffee! I had a great time, lots of fun and jokes. I was amazed how easy it was for me to make coffee like a professional barista. Coffee tasted great, and you have to try the hot chocolate! Thanks for great 3.5 hours and telling me all the secrets of making a great coffee. The down side of it all is that now I have become a coffee snob... find myself asking "have you adjusted for humidity lately?" 8 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Staff were great and the space had it all When we arrived we were greated by the freiendly staff who explained the next 3 hours, what to expect and what to look out for. Everything went to the course plan and I learnt a lot of new things about coffee making its history and my future as a barister. 7 April 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cofffeeee Aimee the instructor was very enthusiastic and a laugh. I learnt how sinfully I have been treating my coffee and how terribly my machine has been pouring. I now know why my milk always tastes bad and why I could never manage to get a nice fluffy Cappuccino. After several failed attempts at the Academy I managed to get a couple of great jugs of milk and a couple of Cappuccinos out of it. Look out world you might see me behind a counter one day ;) 5 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A lot of fun, and learnt a lot! We had a wonderful time learning to make great coffee with Katherine. She was very informative and did an excellent job at explaining all the theory - from the growing and processing of coffee beans to a good extraction and milk frothing. Highly recommended. 21 March 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Well worth it, enjoyable The course is designed for those starting a business or looking for work in the industry. Although I am simply a "home" barista improving one's skills I was shown the same respect and courtesy as the others and did not feel anyway disadvantaged. After the intro it was all hands on plus help from the trainers. Well worth it will need to do the latte art next. 15 March 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Great course - highly recommended! I would highly recommend this course, the staff are great and the course comprehensively covers all aspects of coffee making! Unfortunately, through Red Balloon I was only able to book for the 3 hour session, which covered the history of coffee-making, how to make the different coffees and cleaning/maintenance of the machine. Although at the end of the morning course I received the official certificate, those who had booked the course elsewhere were staying on for the afternoon session, which wasn't included in the Red Balloon Package. I made an extra payment and it was easily organised for me to stay for the afternoon session as well. The afternoon session was definitely worthwhile; here we learnt how to create coffee "art" which was lots of fun and certainly worth the extra payment. Overall, I had an amazing experience! If you have the time and don't mind paying a little bit extra I would definitely suggest staying on for the afternoon session as well. Thanks for a great experience! 8 February 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by great day After an initial mix up with the dates, probably as much my fault, we began our Barista Course on time . The staff were extremely efficient and friendly. I thought there was a great mix of "lecture" and hands on experience. Made a couple of great coffees, at least I thought so. A day well worth it! 5 February 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent course that lived up to my expectations The basic barista course was excellent. The presenter was well prepared and her presentation style fun and engaging. Plenty of practice time on the machines balanced with good information on coffee beans and styles and essential hygiene for baristas. Overall a course I would recommend. 4 February 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Coffee Coffee Coffee I absolutely loved this experience... I should have drunk more of what I made though. I now know the importance of fresh beans, a cleaned machine, how to make pictures in the froth - and the names and how to make all the coffee types... I was amazed that we got through so much 24 January 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by A really good afternoon of coffee making. I bought this experience for my friends birthday and I went along with her. We really did not know what to expect. The staff (Aimee and Rachael) were welcoming and helpful. We had a really fun few hours where we learnt the basic on coffee making, from beans to grinding and then to milk. It was simple instruction and we were able to have lots of practice to create the perfect drink. I was so inspired by the course that on the way home, I stopped and purchased a new coffee machine so I could re create the coffee we had made that afternoon. Thank you all! 22 January 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than I expected! I did the Barista Basics course that my wife got the voucher via RB for Christmas back in 2011 and I finally booked it in and under went the course on January 18th. Course met all my expectations and i'd say exceeded them! Fantastic experience highly recommended. Alex. 20 January 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Loved it! The course was non stop the whole time. I went from a complete novice to someone who made a very nice cappuccino if I do say so myself! 20 January 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Highly Recommended - If you love coffee, then this is for you! Regardless if you want to become a barista or not, this course is just all round good fun and really interesting. Not to mention you get to taste a few really nice coffees - That YOU Make! 3 January 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Really enjoyed this barista course. This course covered off everything I hoped to learn and more. From an overview of types of coffee, roasting techniques and storage to the necessary practical experience of making a multitude of coffees. The staff were knowledgable and entertaining. My only negative experience was that the class was full and therefore I didn't receive as much one on one tutoring as I would have preferred. 2 January 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by The most fun you can have with a cup of coffee in one afternoon. If you love coffee? Then this is an experience worth doing. From the background of the humble coffee bean to a superb coffee made by you. Satisfaction and fun all rolled into one afternoon. Don't forget this is a skill you can use in the real world :-) 29 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by A highly recommended experience A fantastic experience for anyone contemplating a career as a Barista or someone simply wanting to craft their knowledge on how to make that excellent coffee. I now appreciate what is involved right from bean selection and roasting, through to extraction, creating that abundant coffee menu and last but not least hygiene. 25 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great. Loved it. The barista course was very fast paced and extremely informative. I didn't think I could learn so much about coffee and making different coffees in such a short space of time. The instructor was awesome - very knowledgable and entertaining. 16 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by If you love your coffee, then this is for you! It was fascinating learning about the science behind creating a great coffee. From how the beans are grown (coffee is the 2nd largest traded commodity in the world) to how the weather impacts upon the grind of the beans, I learnt great insights into how to brew the perfect cup of java. The trainers were patient and fun - even when I almost exploded hot milk up the wall thanks to my over-exuberance with the frother! They also prevented me making an expensive mistake investing in the next home coffee machine. All in all a great morning - highly recommended. 9 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by New appreciation for coffee This week my colleague Phil and I finally went on our end of trimester team celebration, learning to make the perfect cup of coffee on a RedBalloon barista basics experience. We’re both what you might affectionately refer to as “coffee snobs”. We don’t drink a lot of coffee, but that one-a-day has to be a good one. Otherwise, look out! Phil and I were pretty excited to learn about the history of this delicious drink, and the processes the fruit/berries of the coffee plant go through before they arrive in front of us, mixed with delicious 60 degree milk, in a glass, mug or cup – whichever blows your hair back. It turns out great coffee is actually a bit of a science. What we learnt is that there are so many factors going into a great cup of coffee, and therefore many variables – and if only one of these variables is out of whack, the whole cuppa will suffer (ooh, nice rhyming). So, here’s the “Coffee Equation” we learnt (I’ve always been better with words than numbers, so bear with me)… - The ground coffee must be pressed with 18kg or force into the portafilter - It takes 7gm of coffee to produce a single “shot” of coffee - The water that runs through this coffee extracting the flavour and aroma (crema) into your cup, must be 92 degrees. - There must be 30ml of water running through the coffee grounds, therefore producing a 30ml single shot - The milk must be heated to 60 degrees It was great fun playing around with the professional machines, getting the hang of foaming the milk first, and then graduating on to the actual coffee component. We made cappuccinos, lattes, flat whites, mochas, short/long blacks and short/long macchiatos. It really was a great way to spend three hours, and the highlight? Getting to sample my own handiwork of course! I now have a new level of respect for baristas And all of a sudden I wonder how all of those male barista’s out there manage to multi-task so well… 6 December 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic experience! Recommended for any coffee lover I went to this course hoping to learn how to make a decent coffee at home. I learnt so much more than I expected; I can confidently make a coffee of any sort and had alot of fun in the 3 hours I was there. I recommend this for anyone who wants to be a barista, and even for people like me; to know how to use my coffee machine at home! 16 November 2012
