Rated 4 out of 5 by Very enjoyable evening. Good location especially on the verandah- cardigan needed, but popular hotel and therefore noisy and busy with quite a few celebrations running. Great service and attention by staff. Food mostly very good depending on what tapas you choose. We had lamb with yoghurt, kangaroo wellington-a little tough, garlic prawns, duck spring rolls, prawn dumplings and haloumi- very salty and not pleasant to eat. White wine Sangria cocktail jug very enjoyable and very yummy!! We were disappointed that we couldn't cook/ hot rock 3 of the tapas at our table as we expected because we were told the oven to heat the rocks wasn't working. Overall an enjoyable experience but very quick to finish. It took us just over an hour. Local street parking expensive . Go early to get close parking. We went to the 6.00-8.00 session. 13 April 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Loved it :) It was a shame that the hot rocks oven wasn't working on the night we went so we couldn't cook our own food but the chef's did an amazing job, the food was delicious and the service was absolutely outstanding!! 12 April 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Would give it another go The venue is a really lovely pub in the heart of Balmain. We had a nice table on the balcony on a lovely sunny sunday. The package includes wine or cocktails and the choice of 6 cooked tapas in total. You can choose to cook them yourself on a hot rock or have them served cooked. We chose the latter. The food included duck spring rolls. The rolls were really delicious however we had to search for the duck pieces which were minute. The soft shelled crab was tasty but again not much crab. The lamb belly was overcooked. The service was really excellent and all the staff are friendly and welcoming. We would give it another go as despite some of the food being underwhelming it is a nice place and there are many other food options available. 8 April 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by The food quality was excellent, the service was helpful and prompt. We ordered 3 of the cooked tapas - all excellent. And 3 of the raw tapas to be cooked on the hot rock - this was good food and flavour, however we found the cooking process a bit overrated. The pieces of meat were very small, so the cooking/turning process was very involved and the whole thing was very smokey. I would have preferred 2-3 larger pieces of meat to make it easier. but to be frank I would have more preferred the kitchen to take care of all the cooking. It was definately a good experience to do once, and I will absolutely return for the great food, but I'll probably give the hot rock part a miss. 7 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Not a Great Experience - AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE I think in any experience it is the service that comes to mind - its the people serving you who really make that difference.. In this case I was absolutely delighted with every aspect of my latest experience through RedBalloon. The Hot Rock Tapas dinner for two at Bamain was a lunch time experience that will be difficult to beat. The food was absolutely devine, the venue itself had a wonderful ambiance and the customer service was the best I have experienced in such a very long time. Do yourselves a favor and get to this place to enjoy an absolutely wonderful experience. Food, people and venue an absolute winner on all '3' counts.. I would recommend this venue to anyone.. Thank you RedBalloon - than kyou to the chefs and staff at the Establishment for a fantastic meal & experience.... 4 April 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by We had a great evening! My partner and I had a lovely meal! The atmosphere was lively without being too loud, the service was very good, the size of the meal perfect and the variety of tapas to choose from was excellent. We did have a joke about going out to a restaurant and still having to cook! We would certainly recommend this for a fun night out! 18 March 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good food choices and a great afternoon Choice of food was excellent and they provided additional vegetarian options to cater for those within ou group of 6. We really enjoyed being out on the balcony, sipping our sangria and mocktails. The only suggestion we have is for the food being cooked on the hot rock to be smaller and more consistent in size to make it easier to cook it. But we enjoyed it and the accompanying sauces and dips - very tasty! 17 March 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by A very pleasant evening in an unexpected location. A great experience. This was a gift, so I can't comment on its value. It was a type of meal I've not experienced before, at a venue I didn't even know existed. So lots of fun discovering new things! The food was delicious, and the surroundings unusual and enjoyable. A very generous large jug of sangria accompanied the food. My only criticism is that the waiting staff didn't make clear what was included in the deal and what was extra, to be paid. $9 for a bottle of mineral water was steep. 16 March 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by Great night Lovely sitting on the verandah of the Hotel, cooking your own food and having a nice glass of red. Staff very friendly. 11 March 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not the best The jug of Sangria was amazing and fresh! However, the tapas were not overly tasty. We chose 3 Cooked and 3 Raw The 3 raw were much nicer than the cooked, but it took a long time for our hot rock to come out. The experience of cooking your own meal on a hot rock is fun but the food was a bit of a let down. 28 February 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by A different experience in our life so far Thanks a lot the team from Exchange Hotel, as this was totally a different experience for me and my husband. Specially cooking with hot rock is an amazing thing, helped me to eat the food cooked and served by my husband. Moreover, we both really liked the soft shell crab with bread crumbs coat and the sauce plus the cocktail. Overall, we spent our time efficiently, talked to each other in a different style, understood better, within that few hours. I would say, it is one of the great experiences in my life so far ,that I can highlight to anyone else. Thank you very much. 19 February 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Really enjoyable night! Hot Rock Tapas was a new experience for us, and we loved it! The hotel had great ambience and very friendly staff. The food was delicious and added a bit of fun cooking our own tapas at the table, cant get hotter or fresher than that! The jug of sangria to go with it was also well recieved , it looked great, full of fruit , ice and mint, it was a treat for the eyes and the palate! overall a great experience I have already recommended to my friends. 4 February 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by A decent meal Good, friendly service. Staff were attentive and helpful. Nice atmosphere despite it being a restaurant in a pub. We were pleasantly surprised by the nice restaurant upstairs. Food was nice. Not outstanding but decent. The "cook your own" section was good for something different. Made the meal last longer. Wine was ok. 3 February 2013

Rated 4 out of 5 by Great food! Great venue. The food and selection of menu items was great. Lots of haloumi is never a bad thing :) The only thing I would recommend is don't eat hot rock tapas on a 46 degree day. 20 January 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by A very enjoyable experience We were dealt with promptly ,given advice on ordering and when the food arrived it was well presented and tasted wonderful. We really enjoyed the dining out on the balcony with city views. 17 January 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good food in a pleasant setting The things we liked about this experience were the value (there is a good amount of food for 2 people and a jug of cocktail or bottle of wine included), the location and the friendly staff. The thing that was the least pleasing was our expectation of learning to cook our own tapas - this is not the case. When this experience was searched on the site, it came up with the cooking classes, which was what we were after. In fact, you can cook some of your own meat on a hot rock on your table, but that's it. There is also a fairly limited number of dishes to choose from, and limited catering for vegetarians. However, the food was nice (nothing too exceptional, but very edible - except for the haloumi which was salty even for haloumi!), the staff were very helpful, and we left with a smile on our faces. 6 January 2013
